Arctic Monkeys

Arctic Monkeys are an English indie rock/rock band from High Green, a suburb of Sheffield. Formed in 2002, the band currently consists of Alex Turner on lead vocals and guitar, Jamie Cook on guitar, Matt Helders on drums and backing vocals, and Nick O’Malley on bass guitar, a position formerly held by Andy Nicholson

Billy Talent

Billy Talent are a Canadian rock band formed in 1993 in Mississauga, Ontario. The band consists of Benjamin Kowalewicz (vocals), Ian D’Sa (guitar/vocals), Jonathan Gallant (bass/vocals), and Aaron Solowoniuk (drums/percussion).

Although they are often described as having punk rock roots, the band claims that they have no bands that they have draw inspiration from; they didn’t “emulate popular bands at the time.” The sound is original and unique, something different that they recognized when they first started playing together.

Bloodhound Gang

The Bloodhound Gang is an American alternative band with a post-punk revival-influenced sound. They are originally from Quakertown, Pennsylvania. The group formed in 1992.

Blur

Blur are an English rock band formed in Colchester in 1989. Originally named Seymour, the band are comprised of vocalist/keyboardist Damon Albarn, guitarist/vocalist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree. The group became one of the biggest bands in the UK during the Britpop movement of the mid-1990s.

Fall Out Boy

Fall Out Boy (commonly abbreviated as FOB) is an American band from Wilmette, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago) that formed in 2001. The band consists of Patrick Stump (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, and primary composer), Pete Wentz (bass guitar, backup vocals, and primary lyricist), Joe Trohman (lead guitar), and Andy Hurley (drums).

Fall Out Boy has won several awards for its major label debut album From Under the Cork Tree. Released in 2005, the album has achieved double platinum status after selling more than 2.5 million albums in the United States alone. In support of the album, Fall Out Boy headlined tours in 2005 and 2006 playing in the U.S., Canada, Japan, and Europe.

Good Charlotte

Good Charlotte is a pop punk band from Waldorf, Maryland that formed in 1996. They took their name from a children’s book called Good Charlotte: The Girls of Good Day Orphanage by Carol Beach York. They have released four albums in total, most notably 2002’s multi-platinum seller The Young and the Hopeless, which spawned the singles, “Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous”, “The Anthem”, and “Girls and Boys”. Their new album, Good Morning Revival, was released on March 19, 2007 in Europe and on March 27, 2007 in the United States. The band is fronted by identical twin brothers Joel (lead vocals and Benji Madden (lead guitar and backing vocals). Other members of the band include Billy Martin (rhythm guitar and keyboards), Paul Thomas (bass guitar) and Dean Butterworth (drums and percussion).

Kaiser Chiefs

Kaiser Chiefs are an English band from Leeds formed early in 1997. They were formed by school friends Nick Hodgson, Simon Rix and Nick Baines. They were later joined by Andrew White and art school graduate Ricky Wilson, whom they spotted singing with a Rolling Stones tribute band.

Mando Diao

Mando Diao is a garage rock band from Borlänge, Sweden. The roots of Mando Diao date back to 1995 when Björn Dixgård was a member of a band called Butler. Band members came and went and four years later the rest of the current line-up decided to take that project more seriously. Björn Dixgård and Gustaf Norén locked themselves up in a summer house and spent six months writing songs. The two renamed their band Mando Diao. According to the band, the name Mando Diao has no meaning at all, but rather appeared to band member Björn Dixgård in a dream.

Maroon 5

Maroon 5 is a soul-influenced rock band from Los Angeles, California comprising five members: Adam Levine (lead vocals, guitar), James Valentine (guitar, backing vocals), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards, backing vocals), Mickey Madden (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Matt Flynn (drums). The band is best known for their hit singles “Harder to Breathe”, “This Love”, “She Will Be Loved”, “Sunday Morning” and most recently “Makes Me Wonder”. Maroon 5 has won several awards for its debut album Songs About Jane. Released in June 2002, the album enjoyed major chart success, going gold, platinum, and triple platinum in many countries around the world.

My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance (also known as My Chem, MCR and The Black Parade) is an American rock band that formed in 2001. The current members of the band are Gerard Way, Ray Toro, Frank Iero, Mikey Way, and Bob Bryar. Shortly after forming, the band signed to Eyeball Records and released their debut album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love in 2002. They signed with Reprise Records the next year and released their major label debut Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge in 2004. The album was a major commercial success, selling over two million copies due in part to the success of the singles “Helena”, “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)”, and “The Ghost of You”. The band followed this success with 2006’s The Black Parade, featuring their biggest hit “Welcome to the Black Parade”. While the band defines their sound as simply “Rock”, the subgenre of the band’s recordings has been a subject of debate among fans and the media.

Oasis

Oasis are an English rock band, formed in Manchester in 1991. Led by lead guitarist and primary songwriter Noel Gallagher and his younger brother, lead vocalist and songwriter Liam Gallagher, Oasis are one of the most successful groups to emerge during the Britpop movement of the mid-1990s. In 2005, The Guinness Book Of Hit Singles And Albums declared Oasis the “Most Successful Act of the Last Decade in the UK.” Oasis have sold more than 50 million records worldwide, and have had eight UK number one singles. Liam Gallagher is the only original band member, and the present lineup is completed by Noel (who joined a few months after the original formation), rhythm/lead guitarist Gem Archer, bass guitarist Andy Bell and drummer Zak Starkey.

OK GO

OK Go is a rock band originally from Chicago, now residing in Los Angeles. The band’s singer, Damian Kulash, met bassist Tim Nordwind at Interlochen Arts Camp when they were 11. They met the band’s original lead guitarist and keyboardist, Andy Duncan, in high school, and drummer Dan Konopka in college. They formed OK Go in 1998. Andy Duncan left the band in 2005 after they had recorded their second album, and was replaced by computer-programming whiz Andy Ross, who auditioned for them in Chicago. The band’s best known singles are “Get Over It”, “A Million Ways”, and “Here It Goes Again.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Red Hot Chili Peppers are an American rock band that formed in Los Angeles, California in 1983. For most of their career, the group’s lineup has consisted of vocalist Anthony Kiedis, guitarist John Frusciante, bassist Michael “Flea” Balzary, and drummer Chad Smith. The band’s varied musical style has fused traditional rock with various elements of funk, punk rock, alternative rock, rap, heavy metal and psychedelic rock. They hold the record for the most number one singles on the Billboard Modern Rock Chart, with eleven, and a record of 81 weeks at #1 on the chart.

The Killers

The Killers are an American rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada. Formed in 2002 and made up of Brandon Flowers (vocals, keyboards), Dave Keuning (guitar, vocals), Mark Stoermer (bass guitar, vocals) and Ronnie Vannucci Jr., (drums, percussion), they released their debut album, Hot Fuss, in 2004. Their second album, Sam’s Town, was released in early October 2006. Their first two albums to date have sold in excess of 8,750,000 copies. Most famous for their hit singles “Somebody Told Me”, “Mr. Brightside” and “When You Were Young”, their music is based on British influences and on the music of the 1980s, particularly New Wave music and later, on epic ‘Americana’ artists such as Bruce Springsteen.

We Are Scientists

We Are Scientists is an American indie rock band formed in 2000 featuring Keith Murray (guitar and lead vocals), Chris Cain (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Michael Tapper (drums and backing vocals). The band’s name was inspired by an awkward conversation with a U-Haul employee who was inspecting a van that the band had rented. The U-haul employee, attempting to make polite conversation, asked the three bespectacled band members if they were scientists. They told him that they were musicians, not scientists. To this day they regret it and “…kind of wish we had just lied and gone on a riff about our work in nanotech”. In their own words, the band create “rock music of the thoughtful, sometimes epic, often loud, vaguely danceable, implicitly humanist variety”.

Japanese Rock

Dir en grey

Dir en grey is a Japanese band formed in 1997. As of 2007, it has released six full-length records and is among the handful of Japanese bands to have enjoyed notable success in Europe and North America. While the group’s lineup has remained consistent since its inception, numerous stylistic changes have made its music’s genre difficult to determine (though it is generally considered to be a form of rock music). Originally part of Japan’s visual kei movement, Dir en grey has opted for less flamboyant attire in recent years.

Kagerou

Kagerou was a Japanese Visual Kei rock band. Kagerou formed in September of 1999 by vocalist Daisuke, and bassist Masaya, soon to be joined by guitarist Yuana. After their time on record label Loop Ash, in 2000 Kagerou transferred to label Lizard inside of Free-Will. After having gained great popularity among the Japanese Visual Kei audience, they went abroad in 2005; playing in Germany and France. At the live of September 16, 2006, at Liquid Room Ebisu, they stated their disbandment. Their comment on the 19th on their official site states it took place on January of 2007, after a final tour in late October & November. On December 27th, 2006 they released a final greatest hits album entitled Shinjuka.

MUCC

Mucc (mukku, sometimes referred to as 69, which is pronounced “muku” in Japanese) is a Japanese rock band formed in 1997. Supposedly named after a character from the Japanese children’s program Ponkickies, the band has, as of 2007, released seven studio albums, along with several live albums, EPs, singles and DVDs, some of which were also released in Europe.
